Beauties And The Beasts<\/strong><\/p>\n

My journey takes me places
\nPlaces I never thought I might go
\nTo lakes and forests and mountains so high
\nAnd to ocean’s bottom deep below<\/p>\n

There is beauty in every face
\nOn everything my eyes can see
\nFrom tiny fish to weathered canyon
\nTo fields of grain to old and mighty tree<\/p>\n

I also found beasts, bent on destruction
\nTheir appearance varied a little, but they were all the same
\nThey ravaged the oceans and raped the forests
\nSo few of them felt the least bit of shame<\/p>\n

I named the beasts for myself
\nFor I knew I was one of them, too
\nWe are mankind and we create and destroy
\nWith little care about which we might do<\/p>\n

I am embarrassed to be human
\nFor the wastelands we create, the beasts we are
\nWe could preserve Earth’s beauty
\nInstead we use and abuse it, we go too far<\/p>\n

But as with all guilt, with all of things of shame
\nThere is a path to salvation which patiently waits
\nWe need only look to find it, to know it, to be it
\nAnd then to live it, and know Nature’s fate<\/p>\n

For no matter what we do,
\nNo matter how harsh and cruel we may be
\nNature will win in the end
\nAnd to her winning side there is a path I can see<\/p>\n

This was inspired by two things: 1. I watched a TED Talk by Jim Toomey<\/a>, the creator of Sherman’s Lagoon<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 In it he talks a bit about how we are damaging the ocean and her residents, and it made me a bit sad.\u00a0 And b., my roommate told me the next Disney DVD I should get is Beauty And The Beast<\/em>.\u00a0 Thus the theme and title of this poem.\u00a0 I hope you enjoyed it and hope you take its lesson to heart.<\/p>\n

Speaking of beasts and natural things, politics is its own beast and there is a beastly proposition on Colorado’s ballot this fall.\u00a0 I have a lovely rant about it for Monday already written.\u00a0 See you then.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
