Putting Some English on English"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Putting Some English on English<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I slipped and fell<br \/>\nInto a hole<br \/>\nNot just part of me<br \/>\nBut my whole<\/p>\n<p>The hole was a spiral<br \/>\nAround it wound<br \/>\nThen I hit bottom<br \/>\nAnd suffered a wound<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t the fall<br \/>\nThat I could bear<br \/>\nThe wound came from<br \/>\nA grizzly bear<\/p>\n<p>After he hurt me<br \/>\nI cried &#8220;No fair!&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd then he told me<br \/>\nHe was from a sideshow fair<\/p>\n<p>He then had to leave<br \/>\nHe had a clock to wind<br \/>\nBut that poor clock<br \/>\nWas blowin&#8217; in the wind<\/p>\n<p>A nurse healed my wound<br \/>\nShe was a good wound sewer<br \/>\nI no longer felt<br \/>\nI&#8217;d been dropped in the sewer<\/p>\n<p>My insurance wouldn&#8217;t cover it<br \/>\nThe bear made my claim invalid<br \/>\nIt didn&#8217;t matter that now<br \/>\nI felt like an invalid<\/p>\n<p>I understood their point<br \/>\nHow could I object?<br \/>\nI was just another number<br \/>\nA statistical object<\/p>\n<p>Thus ends my story<br \/>\nNo more words shall I produce<br \/>\nLike an apple on a shelf<br \/>\nOne more piece of produce<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>****<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have always loved the English language.\u00a0 The above nonsense is a nice little poetic way of showing off its more amusing idiosyncracies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once again, I missed Nothing Day.\u00a0 So here&#8217;s what&#8217;s going on:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First, my video card finally decided to be fully functional.\u00a0 My email conversation with ATI concluded with something to the effect of, &#8220;Sorry, buddy, you&#8217;re screwed.\u00a0 Try to exchange the card through whoever you bought it from.&#8221;\u00a0 I bought it last August, over six months ago, so exchange seemed unlikely.\u00a0 With this in mind, I decided to make the Displayport port on it the only connected video connection again, as I had nothing to lose anyway.\u00a0 The last time I tried this, it failed to help, but it is possible I still had one monitor attached.\u00a0 In any case, this time it worked, although not right away.\u00a0 The monitor it connected to did not come on until Windows finished loading and not until I was making a disparaging remark about it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of monitors, I now have six connected.\u00a0 Big monitor #5 arrived on Monday.\u00a0 I discovered I did not have a DVI cable long enough to reach it, so I ordered a pair of ten-foot DVI cables.\u00a0 The cable for the monitor below the new one did reach, but it was a tight stretch at best.\u00a0 The cables arrived yesterday and worked perfectly.\u00a0 Between that and the Displayport now working on video card #2, I now have all six monitors connected between the two ATI video cards.\u00a0 The motherboard&#8217;s built-in video card (also and ATI) is no longer in use, although that may change sometime in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Displayport-connected monitor has exhibited a strange behavior.\u00a0 If I turn it off, Windows suddenly thinks it has lost the monitor.\u00a0 Turn it back on, and Windows recognizes its presence again.\u00a0 Very weird behavior, in my opinion, and something to post in a forum somewhere for an explanation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a new problem has arisen.\u00a0 If I leave my system on for awhile&#8211;not sure exactly how long&#8211;and then restart it, one or both of my SATA-connected, large capacity (one and two terabyte) hard drives stops being recognized.\u00a0 I suspect it&#8217;s a problem with the SATA bus.\u00a0 I think something in there is overheating just a touch and not working.\u00a0 At some point, I am going to move the two drives to different SATA connectors.\u00a0 I have six available, and they have been on connectors three and four for awhile.\u00a0 (Connector #1 is a DVD drive; not sure why I skipped #2.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the news for this week.\u00a0 I have some hope of social news next week.\u00a0 See you then!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Putting Some English on English &nbsp;
