Today is the day!\u00a0 My surviving son, Spiff (no, that’s not his real name), moves out.\u00a0 He will be here in about 4.25 hours.\u00a0 I can’t tell you how excited I am about his arrival.\u00a0 My listing of the hours before he arrives may be a clue, though.\u00a0 I have plans for him, and I have high hopes they will work out.\u00a0 I will be having a quiet chat with him after he arrives about expectations, etc.\u00a0 Sam will be sleeping when he arrives, so we will need to try to be as quiet as possible.\u00a0 In short, there are things I want him to accomplish:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Get a GED<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0 Get a job<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0 Get a driver’s license<\/p>\n
4.\u00a0 Get into some sort of higher education<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The ultimate goal is for him to move out on his own, something he is simply not ready to do.\u00a0 I will tell him I believe he should have, for at least six months, had the same job, had his driver’s license and been in school–essentially all of the above except the GED–before he moves out.\u00a0 Along the way he should be paying some bills, seeing the doctor as needed, etc.<\/p>\n

Okay, new topic.\u00a0 I am excited about Spiff moving out, but there are other things going on in my life.\u00a0 For example, there’s the checkers applet I have been working on for a co-worker.\u00a0 I have mentioned it before, although I can’t remember exactly when.\u00a0 I have made significant progress, particularly in the past week.\u00a0 One can now create a login and then use that login.\u00a0 There is a box which shows who’s online, and it does that (although it needs refinement).\u00a0 Most excitingly–and most recently–I have created the ability to create a “table” to play the game.\u00a0 The game is not yet playable and there are some issues with the creation process and, of course, much to otherwise be refined, but the table creation thing is there.\u00a0 With some effort, the game will be playable this weekend.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in EverQuest, my focus has been on Danielf.\u00a0 He has become a regular enough raider that I need to improve his gear.\u00a0 So I have been doing quests and things to do that.\u00a0 Also, he needs to reach the next tier of the expansion before the current one, so I have been working on that, too.\u00a0 I don’t think I am going to get much done today–too much excitement over Spiff’s arrival to focus on much–but I hope to get done with the improvements and reach the aforementioned next tier in the next couple of weeks or so.<\/p>\n
