{"id":727,"date":"2012-10-15T07:41:48","date_gmt":"2012-10-15T13:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.shadowkatmandu.net\/?p=727"},"modified":"2012-10-15T07:42:06","modified_gmt":"2012-10-15T13:42:06","slug":"727","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.shadowkatmandu.net\/?p=727","title":{"rendered":"The Madness Will Now Continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone!\u00a0 The Madness will now continue.\u00a0 No, really, I am returning to regular blogs.\u00a0 You see, today I am starting my training to become&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;a Superhero!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>No, I am not kidding.\u00a0 I do believe I said the Madness will now continue.\u00a0 I have an interesting goal in life, and that is to become a superhero.\u00a0 No, I don&#8217;t have any super powers and do not expect to gain any anytime soon.\u00a0 However, I have been inspired by a few things to take up a cape and head to the streets in an effort to make the world a better place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This will not take place tomorrow.\u00a0 Or next week.\u00a0 Or even in the next few months.\u00a0 I have a bit of training to do first.\u00a0 You see, I am physically unfit.\u00a0 Overweight, even.\u00a0 Nobody wants to see a fat man in tights, even if he is trying to be a do-gooder superhero type.\u00a0 So Aspect #1 of Superhero Training is physical fitness.\u00a0 As a start to this, today I resumed my daily walk.\u00a0 I have done it sporadically since the beginning of June but not regularly since before that.\u00a0 I was up to a two-mile walk five days a week in the months preceding June.\u00a0 Then my daughter had the audacity to get married and somehow that screwed everything up!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Okay, that&#8217;s not fair.\u00a0 I love my daughter and her marriage was an amazingly beautiful ceremony.\u00a0 She has married a fine young military man and they have a bright, Golden, wonderful future together.\u00a0 The wedding and the family reunion the week after (both in Indianapolis) took me away from my daily walk and when I returned I simply failed to continue it.\u00a0 So now I have restarted it and with passion.\u00a0 I set a quicker pace this morning than when I was doing it regularly before.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So why call it superhero training?\u00a0 It&#8217;s a cover story, like a secret identity for a guy in tights whois physically fit and doing good deeds.\u00a0 I may or may not someday be a Real Life Superhero (they do exist), but in the meantime it&#8217;s a way to motivate myself.\u00a0 There are several Aspects to it, all of which are Superhero-themed:<br \/>\n1.\u00a0Physical Fitness.\u00a0 This one is obvious, and I have already discussed it.\u00a0 I will add some plans:\u00a0 First, I will continue to increase the pace of my morning walk until it is more of a jog.\u00a0 I will eventually be doing it on my treadmill as that is more of a workout and not weather-dependent.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll add more exercise, starting with using my exercise machine (bench presses, etc.) and eventually floor stuff (crunches, push-ups, etc.).\u00a0 My goal is to be in superhero shape or something close to it in a year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 <strong>Better Diet<\/strong>.\u00a0 This goes hand-in-hand with #1.\u00a0 I have resisted this for a long time on the excuse that I can get into shape with just exercise.\u00a0 This may be true, but it will be quicker and better with a few diet changes.\u00a0 Less junk, more healthy stuff.\u00a0 I have what will be my last big bag of M&amp;Ms at work.\u00a0 I am eating fruit or vegetables with dinner every night.\u00a0 Stuff like that.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 <strong>Improved Hygiene<\/strong>.\u00a0 Sticking with the physical health theme, I am going to brush my teeth regularly.\u00a0 Wash my hands more often.\u00a0 Things we are all supposed to do but often get lazy about.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 <strong>Disciplined Time Management<\/strong>.\u00a0 Now this is an interesting category.\u00a0 I could probably call it &#8220;Miscellaneous&#8221; but I wanted something more to the point.\u00a0 Things like doing this blog, working more on writing software or books.\u00a0 Doing things with my time which are less wasteful than what I have been doing.\u00a0 This doesn&#8217;t mean cutting out the fun stuff, just making sure I do more of what I should be doing so stuff gets done.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So expect more from me in the future.\u00a0 I will blog daily again, Monday through Friday with occasional weekend posts.\u00a0 I have a notion in my head to do a video blog once a week on Saturdays to recap my week.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see if that happens, but it is a thought.\u00a0 See you tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone!\u00a0 The Madness will now continue.\u00a0 No, really, I am returning to regular blogs.\u00a0 You see, today I am starting my training to become&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;a Superhero! &nbsp;
