Friday Poetry — Small Smiles
Small Smiles
It’s the little things sometimes
Which bring a smile to my face
A word from a friend
A favorite old TV show
A kitten being a kitten
They fill my heart
Warm my soul
The warmth spreads out
Moves up
Until my lips curl
And I can’t help but smile
These are the joys
The moments we live for
Laughter is good
Love is even better
But it is the small smiles
Which get us through

I recently purchased the entire original Star Trek series, remastered. Last night I watched an episode which was supposed to be one of the finest examples of the remastering, The Doomsday Machine. It’s not necessarily one of my favorite episodes but it is certainly one which has stuck in my mind throughout the years. It features one of the worst, most obviously fake, fight scenes ever filmed. But watching it made me smile. Not for the remastering, or even the amusingly bad fight, but just for the nostalgia of it. I am a Trek fan–Trekker or Trekkie, whichever you prefer–and it just warmed me to watch the old crew doing their thing. Thus, the above poem.
That’s it for this week. See you Monday!
