Tap, tap tap.  Is this thing on?  Guess so.

Forgive me, readers, for it has been six months since my last confession.  Er, blog post.  But here I am again, ready to inflict my madness upon the world.

What has happened in the last six months?  Well, to be honest, not a whole lot has changed.  This year has so far been fairly good to me.  I almost got a promotion at work and if the same position opens again (which it likely will, it’s just a question of when), I will probably get it.  I am starting to do some coding on the side.  Well, more accurately, I am about.  I did a little last month and it has led to a side job.  That’s the short version; I probably won’t go into detail.

I have had a couple of dates, but, well, although I enjoyed them, there was not much in the way of hints of romance.  That is changing, too.  There’s a girl I have gotten to know at Wally World who I have probably mentioned before.  I don’t know what pseudonym I have used for her before, but today I am assigning her Renee.  Renee is from Africa, and back in Africa there lives a couple of sisters of Renee.  I may have mentioned the older one before, with whom there was the possibility she would find her way to the U.S., hook up with me, and get citizenified.  The last attempt on this was what’s commonly called the Green Card Lottery, but Renee’s sister #1 was not selected.  I suggested sister #1–who I think I have called Librarian–get a Visitor’s Visa–a complicated thing and a little uncertain–so she could visit the U.S., hook up with me, etc.  Librarian prefers to continue the Green Card Lottery route, which means waiting awhile.

So Renee suggested sister #2, who I shall call Sweetness.  That’s how positive things are looking.  After Librarian was not selected in the lottery and opted out of trying to do the visitor’s visa thing, Renee told me Sweetness was “passionate” about coming to the U.S., and asked if I would be interested in her.  Sweetness is younger than Librarian; they are 27 and 31.  Sweetness has a 2 year old son but is single.  The baby’s daddy vanished shortly after learning of Sweetness’ pregnancy.

Anyway, Renee got us hooked up via Facebook after I agreed to help Sweetness out.  From there, I started emailing her and have chatted with her via Yahoo! Messenger a couple of times.  We have developed a bond and I think genuine feelings are starting to grow.  The only way I can really help to citizenify somebody is to marry them, so this is a good thing.  Marriage is the plan, but I will not do it without going out with Sweetness for awhile and preferably living together for awhile before making a legal commitment.  I already feel we are compatible, but until we meet and spend some time together I can’t make a 100% certain judgment.

My surviving son, Spiff, has been living with me since last August.  He is doing better than he ever has scholastically, getting B’s (mid to upper 80%) range on his quizzes and so forth at the GED / high school alternative place he attends.  It’s called LifeSkills, and it provides its students with a real HS diploma, not just a GED.  It is self-paced, without all the extra courses kids get pushed into in high school.  He is focusing on what he needs to graduate.  At 19, that is the most important thing.

I am planning to move soon.  I am aiming for the beginning to middle of July.  Where I am living now is already crowded; adding Sweetness and her son in down the road would be impossible.  My roommate, Sam, is desperate to move, just for the crowdedness.  I am going to either get into a mobile home (easy to qualify for) or, if I can, get a VA loan and buy a house.  My credit is pretty sucky, so the latter may be chancy at best, but I am going to try.

So this year is very busy for me, with lots of changes:  Job promotion likely, second job happening, romance likely, moving soon.  I am also hoping for a major computer upgrade later this year and possibly replacing my laptop.  The laptop on home computer work fine (home PC’s CPU had issues and had to be replaced, but now it’s okay if less than I want it to be), but are aging, at least in technological terms.

Going forward, I don’t know how regular my blog posts will be.  Today is a Saturday, after all, which I rarely posted on.  I will not be structured with it as I was before, but will still post rants and pictures and wanderings as well as unclassifiable stuff like this post.  I will try to post more often than once / six months, though, and at least post updates on the Sweetness thing.  Plus, it being an election year and the conservatives are ticking me off regularly, I am sure I will have a few political things to say.  Until next time, whenever that may be…insanity reigns!
