Many years ago, my mother and I would meet for lunch almost every Tuesday.  We would talk about everything under the sun, from religion to science to politics.  Our viewpoints were similar, so there wasn’t any arguing, but that didn’t make the discussions any less interesting.  I was a bit disappointed when my job changed and we could no longer meet for lunch.

Many of us, I think, dream of meeting a celebrity or two, often just so we could say we could meet them.  Over time, I have come up with my own list of people I would like to have lunch with much as I did with my mom.  Thus I am call this list of people my “lunch” list.  In no particular order, here is a partial list:

  1. Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame.  I added Adam today, and he is who inspired me to blog about the list.  I added him because I Stumbled across a video of him at a TED conference.  He talked about his projects and how he’ll get very obsessed with them and with doing things with great precision.  I am the same way, and he strikes me as a very intelligent fellow who likes playing the fool, just as I do.  I think we would have an interesting chat.
  2. President Obama.  I think we’d have a few disagreements, but he seems like a very interesting person.  My politics and his are mostly in line, and I think it would be very educational to learn more about his points of view.
  3. Harrison Ford.  I have enjoyed Mr. Ford’s work for quite some time.  He has always struck me as being a down-to-earth guy with strong ethics, going against the grain of the Hollywood stereotype.  I don’t know anything about his points of view, political or religious or otherwise, but I think it would be interesting to explore such things and learn more about him.
  4. Halle Berry.  Okay, Halle is on the list at least in part because I think she’s hot.  That aside, though, she’s had an interesting career and I have enjoyed the movies she’s been in.  The impression I have had of her is a woman of strong opinions and a solid mind who is an interesting conversationalist.  She also seems very real, and by that I mean she doesn’t seem to go to far out of her way to alter her image.  For example, there’s a scene in Swordfish where she briefly appears topless.  Other actresses might have had something done to make themselves look more perfect than is natural, but Halle did not.  Anyway, she seems, like Harrison, to be very down-to-Earth and I think she would make an interesting lunch companion.
  5. Drew Barrymore.  Another babe, but also somebody I think would be an interesting conversationalist.  Not much seems to be taboo with her, and I have enjoyed her movies since E.T. and Firestarter.  She also has the rare distinction of having transitioned successfully from child to adult star, although not without a few difficulties along the way.
  6. Jodie Foster.  I think I would be intimidated by Jodie, but that by itself would make for interesting conversation.  Her education level is well above mine, and I think it would be interesting to get her perspective on a variety of subjects.  I am fairly sure it would be a highly educational experience for me.  And yes, I definitely find her attractive, but it’s her mind I am far more interested in having lunch with.
  7. Mom.  Okay, I am biased here, but I would love to be able to lunch with her again regularly.  Also the only one on the list I might actually have lunch with at some point in the future.

My list is hardly complete, but those are the folks who came to mind today.

As a side note, I apologize for a late post on a somewhat lame topic; computer issues lately have made things a little whacked for me.  On the bright side, I have build up a nice post for tomorrow.  See you then.
