Nothing Day! (New Toys)
Last week I had a little money come in unexpectedly, so this week I have been getting new Toys. The biggest thing is a new TV. I am pretty sure I mentioned this possibility a week ago; now it has happened. The new set came in yesterday while I was at work and so when I got home Sam and I put it in place and then I put it together. I have long dreamed of having a TV with a clear, crisp, bright image; now I have it.
Also, Sam’s new computer case arrived yesterday. I ordered mine in the morning, so it should arrive by Monday or Tuesday of next week. My new motherboard, the one replacing the defective one I got, theoretically shipped yesterday, but I didn’t get a tracking number yet so I can’t say for sure. I kind of hope it arrives next week, so I can put it in the new case directly.
I also got some videos. Amazon had the original Superman movie series in a single case, two disc set for sale cheap. I had been figuring on spending seventy or eighty dollars on it but got it for under eleven. I also got season one of Ranma 1/2, an amusing anime series. This is a first for me: I don’t have any other TV shows on DVD, not even any American ones. I hope some day to have all of the Star Treks, but thus far my DVD collection only includes movies and now the first season of Ranma.
If you’re not familiar with Ranma, you should be forewarned it’s not an American cartoon show by any stretch. It’s about a high school boy who turns into a girl when he gets hit with cold water and back again when he gets hit with hot water. This is a Japanese show, and there’s plenty of naked cartoon boobs on display throughout the show. The title character’s upper body is exposed in female form in almost every episode.
Anyway, I am enjoying my new stuff. I have a new winter coat on the way, a couple of videos (Disney’s animated American Tail movies and Twister), the computer game Civilization IV (yes, that’s a version behind now, but it was cheap) and a case for the new toy I got my roommate as an early Christmas gift, which was a Kindle.
I have been impressed by the Kindle, by the way. I still think it’s a little overpriced for what it does, but it is an excellent e-reader. Setup was terribly easy once I got it in range of a wifi signal I have access to. I was particularly impressed by how fast books showed up on the device after I ordered them on a regular computer. No connection to the device from said computer; I just ordered books (mostly free ones) and like magic they were suddenly available on the Kindle. I will add as a final note that Sam is very happy with it and fixed me a nice thank-you lunch and gave a big thank-you hug and kiss. It’s rare at best that I see her as excited over a thing as she has been over her new Kindle.
All right, enough chatter for this week. See you tomorrow with some fresh poetry.
