Nothing Day! (Sue, Upgrade, Ranma)
I am starting today’s note on a sad note. My mother’s sister, my aunt Sue, died a couple of days ago. I learned she was dying on Saturday. She had had cancer and then it went into remission, but returned along with other health issues until it was finally decided it would be better to simply make her comfortable. I know there was talk of her going home from the hospital and having in-home care, but I don’t know if this was accomplished before she died. I don’t know exactly how old she was, but I know she is in her mid-70’s, so she had a pretty full life. I hadn’t seen her in over ten years, and that saddens me. Her funeral is next week, and I doubt I will be able to go. I can get the leave from work, but I don’t think I’ll have the money.
Changing to a less-unhappy subject, I am considering upgrading my hosting service. My work on my co-worker’s Checkers applet has come to a standstill primarily because I need to do some server-side programming to allow players to communicate with each other. My current hosting is, well, minimal at best, and does not allow for this. I had been considering upgrading my internet speed at home, but in my more honest moments I understood it wouldn’t do much for me. My next speed upgrade would take me from twenty megabits to fifty megabits per second and cost just shy of $60 more per month. The least server upgrade–something which would have the potential of greatly enhancing my online productivity–would be about the same increase. (The server upgrade is actually a couple of dollars cheaper in terms of increase.) I am going to call my hosting company tomorrow to ensure that such an upgrade will be seamless. However, should I fail to post for a couple of days sometime in the next week or two, this may be the reason.
I ordered season 7 of Ranma last week. Amazon doesn’t carry it directly, but they do sell it as a resell from somebody who does. It arrived on Monday with a small problem:
Yes, I have no disk one but I have two copies of disk three. I sent the seller a message on Tuesday through Amazon but so far no reply. I just now filed a claim with Amazon, so we’ll see what happens next. I hope it gets resolved quickly; I am over halfway through watching season six!
That’s it for this week. See you tomorrow with a little poetry.
