I am having technical difficulties at home, so I apologize (1) for missing Friday’s post entirely and (b) for how short today’s and tomorrow’s posts will likely be.  Wednesday should be on time, but light on Wanderings.  Thursday forward should be completely back to normal.  Meanwhile…

Rant on.

Today I had to ride the bus.  This is because it snowed just enough last night to ice the streets, making riding my scooter home a Bad Idea.  A few minutes after I got on and sat down, the guy in the seat to my left told me, and I quote, “Jesus loves you.”  He added something about how no matter how bad things were for me right now, my mansion was waiting for me in Heaven.

Seriously?  A mansion in Heaven?  Why would there be such an Earthly contrivance in Heaven?  That aside, this was terribly annoying.  If I was already a heavy duty Christian, it probably wouldn’t be so bad, but…I’m not.  It is, in my opinion, rude to say something like this to somebody.  I am pretty sure if I turned the tables and said something like “The Goddess loves you” or “Gay sex is great” or something else that is only appreciated by those who already agree with the statement but likely not the fellow who spoke to me, he would have gotten upset.

Which is the point, by the way.  If you have something deeply personal to say, say it to people who want to hear it.  Don’t say it to random folks who may be offended by it.  This includes any statement of a religious nature.  Advertising is one thing, but just saying something like that…well, to paraphrase a cliche, preach to the choir, please!  This sounds useless, but my own observation is the choir likes being preached to.  When I have political discussions with people whose political ideals agree with mine, the conversation goes much smoother than when I am talking to those whose ideals don’t agree with mine.

Actually, both conversations are pretty useless.  Talking to those who agree with me doesn’t convince anybody of anything, and the same points are made and accepted by both sides.  Talking to those who do not agree with me…well, usually nobody gets convinced of anything there, either, and the points made are ignored or rejected by both sides.

Anyway, I’d rather people keep their useless opinions to themselves.  In return, I will do the same with mine.

Rant off.
