Nothing Day (Long Day, Election Day, Rider Day, etc.)
0It has been an interesting week, and it’s not quite over yet. Today is my sixth working day in a row as I am working a co-worker’s shift so he can work my shift on Saturday so I can work the annual All Souls Auction. It’s going to be a long day because (1) said co-worker’s shift starts four hours earlier than mine, (b) when my shift is over I go directly to the last Auction meeting and (iii) once that meeting is over I am going to run by the store and then visit Wendy. Wendy’s birthday was yesterday and I owe her a present, which is half the reason for my store visit. (The other half is cookies.)
Tuesday was Election Day. Locally, people mostly agreed with me on the ballot issues and the candidates. One notable exception is Michael Merrifield, who was running for County Commissioner. He occasionally visits the church, so I was really rooting for him. On the bright side, all the issues I ranted about here went the way I hoped they would.
Tuesday was also, apparently, Double Rider day. Wendy called me in the morning needing a ride to work, so I gave her one. Later Sam decided to ride with me to vote rather than take the bus. I think my scooter was quite happy to just be hauling my fat ass around the rest of the day.
Tuesday and Wednesday were VIP days at work. We had some people from Corporate HQ out visiting our little team. I didn’t see them on Tuesday at all, but Wednesday there were there and even had a short meeting with us in small groups. Having them out meant one small, slightly negative thing: No laptops were allowed to be out. This was a brief restriction on Tuesday, but on Wednesday I couldn’t get my laptop out until lunchtime. This meant finding entertainment between calls other than Facebook. I purchased the electronic version of Ender’s Game a couple of weeks ago, so I took this opportunity to start reading it. At first, the style put me off a little, but now I am enjoying it greatly. Enough that I was reading it last night when I could have been Stumbling or something else. I suspect I’ll get the sequel when I finish it.
The biggest deal this week is the Auction. If you’re local, please come to it on Saturday between 8 and 5:30 p.m. It’s going to be a fun time with two local bands playing, a kids’ auction, lots of food and a little bit of booze. There have been over one-hundred-fifty items donated, so it should be pretty exciting!
The blog week, meanwhile, is almost over. I will have some (hopefully good) verse for you tomorrow. See you then.
